Welcome to Second Semester Message

I am so happy to have our community back together after the holiday break and the unexpected winter weather last week. As we begin the second semester and a new year, it is another opportunity for our students and staff to do amazing things. Over the next few months, The Carmel School will be a hive of activity, and we appreciate your ongoing support.

I wanted to take this opportunity also to review some adjustments to our COVID-19 protocols:

An infected person goes into isolation for 5 days instead of the previous 10. At the end of 5 days, if there are NO symptoms, previous activities can be resumed, but a mask must be worn for 5 days (no exceptions).   If at the end of 5 days, symptoms have not abated, then isolate until there are no symptoms and then begin the 5 days of wearing a mask.
Quarantine applies to people in close contact with an infected person but not infected themselves.  The CDC now says that if a Moderna or Pfizer vaccination was received within the last 6 months (or J&J within the last 2 months) OR those that have received a booster can skip quarantine if they wear a mask in all settings for 10 days.
People who have not had their vaccinations or have had them longer than 6 months (or 2 for J&J) and have not been boosted are considered the same as those who have not been vaccinated and must quarantine for 5 days and wear a mask for 5 days after quarantine.
Our priority is keeping our students and staff safe and healthy.  I think these new guidelines will also minimize the time students will miss school.  If you or your child has to be isolated or quarantined, please follow the 5 days of mask policy upon return, even if you have requested exemption.   We continue to follow the other guidelines established by the CDC which include maintaining 3 feet of space between desks in classrooms and wearing a mask while indoors.  As always, my door is open, and I am happy to answer any questions.

Happy 2022, GO WILDCATS!

Middle/Upper School Seasonal Dress Code Reminder

As the cold weather continues, please review the student dress code provided in the handbook to ensure your student’s compliance. As a reminder, any hooded sweatshirts must include the Carmel logo to meet the dress code. Also, heavy coats and flannels may be worn to school but must be stored during the school day.

Boys’ trousers must be navy or khaki-colored, of an appropriate length.
  • No elastic-ankle clothing is permitted for students in grades 6-12
  • Navy or khaki shorts of any kind of an appropriate length may be worn between Spring Break and Thanksgiving holidays.

The full dress code is available in the Student Handbook for your child’s division. Please contact Dr. Casper or Mr. Griggs with any questions or concerns about the dress code.

Substitute Teachers Needed

Attention parents, guardians, family, and friends! The Carmel School is currently seeking applicants interested in supporting our school as substitute teachers for all grade levels. All candidates must pass a thorough background check and be willing to support the school’s mission. Please contact Scott Smith at to learn more.
