The Carmel School boasts an Engineering and Robotics curriculum for students in grades 6-12, in addition to 2 extra-curricular, competitive robotics teams. From Lower School to graduation, The Carmel School fosters students’ creativity and STEAM skills at all levels.

Robotics at Carmel encourages students to go beyond the requirements of any single course or competition by guiding exploration of dozens of different robotic systems, including unmanned vehicles, animatronics, artificial intelligence and more.

Through clubs and extracurricular offerings, students gain mentorship from an interdisciplinary team of teachers, sponsors and mentors, gaining diverse technical expertise, as well as vital communication and leadership skills.

All engineering classes and robotics practices take place in The Carmel School’s Makerspace. The Makerspace also provides the primary practice space for The Atomic Bots. The Makerspace provides a space for students to realize their ideas, as they turn designs into real life creations. Students are trained to use a variety of tools and materials to build and test their creations.

The Carmel School encourages a do-it-yourself spirit in all students through open Makerspace Hours. Makerspace Hours are held during study hall each day and after school during The Atomic Bots’ seasons. All students are welcome to engage with the tools and projects in the Makerspace, in order to make hands-on projects for any purpose.
